1Agreeing to these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Occurances. By using the site or creating an account, you accept them. If you do not agree, please do not use Occurances.
Our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy explain how we handle your data and form part of these terms.
2Who can use it
You must be at least 13 to use Occurances. If you are under 18, you need permission from a parent or guardian to create an account, and they accept these terms on your behalf.
3Your account
- Give accurate information and keep your email address up to date.
- Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- One person per account. Do not share, sell or transfer it.
- Choose a username that does not impersonate anyone or mislead others.
- Tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else is using your account.
4Stories and publishers
Occurancesshows headlines, short summaries and images from news publishers, with links to their original articles. That material belongs to the publishers. We do not write, edit or verify it, and we are not responsible for its accuracy or for the publishers' websites.
How stories are ranked for you depends on your preferences and activity. Rankings are not endorsements.
5What you post
You keep ownership of your comments. By posting, you give Occurances a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, display and distribute them as part of the service, including in summaries of how people are reacting to a story. The licence ends when you delete the comment or your account, except where others have already replied or we must keep it by law.
You are responsible for what you post, and you confirm you have the right to post it. Comments are public; do not share anything you want to keep private.
6Community rules
Disagreement is welcome. Abuse is not. Do not post or do anything that:
- harasses, threatens, bullies or intimidates anyone;
- attacks people for their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or similar traits;
- incites violence or praises violent acts;
- shares someone's private information without their permission;
- is sexually explicit, or sexualises minors in any way;
- impersonates a person or organisation, or deliberately spreads false information to deceive;
- is spam, advertising, or manipulates reactions or rankings, for example with fake accounts;
- infringes copyright or other rights, or breaks the law.
You must also not scrape the site, access it with bots in ways that put load on it, probe it for vulnerabilities without permission, or interfere with how it works.
7Moderation
We may remove content, limit features, or suspend or close accounts that break these terms or put others at risk, with or without notice. We are not obliged to review everything posted. To report content or appeal a decision, write to [email protected].
8Our name and service
The Occurances name, logo, design and software belong to us. These terms give you permission to use the service for your own, non-commercial purposes, and no other rights to them.
10Disclaimers
Occurances is provided as it is and as available. We do not promise that it will always be available, error-free or secure, or that stories, summaries or comments are accurate, complete or current. Nothing on Occurances is professional advice. Views in comments are those of their authors, not ours.
11Limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows, Occurances is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost data or lost profits, or for content posted by readers or published by third parties. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to 100,000 Uganda shillings.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer.
12Ending your use
You can stop using Occurances at any time, and ask us to delete your account by writing to [email protected]. If we close your account, the sections of these terms that by their nature should continue (such as the licence for content others have replied to, disclaimers and limits on liability) remain in effect.
13Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Occurances changes. We will revise the date at the top, and tell signed-in readers before significant changes take effect. If you keep using Occurances after that, you accept the new terms.
14Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Uganda. Disputes will be settled by the courts of Uganda, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim there.
